Über dieses Buch

Co-creation is a major trend in management, yet no one seems to truly know what it is. With numerous examples and a Q&A section, this book explains exactly what co-creation is and how it differs from other forms of collaboration. To do so, it covers three main topics: innovation, trust and commitment. With regard to the first, co-creation creates a sense of psychological security by treating all participants as equals, the most important prerequisite for finding innovative solutions. In terms of trust, co-creation builds on individual strengths. People who believe in each other’s abilities trust each other. Lastly, co-creation allows people to arrive at win-win solutions, which is the foundation for taking personal ownership.
The book is intended for executives, HR and organizational managers, and those responsible for corporate transformation who want to implement co-creation in a very concrete way, as well as anyone interested in co-creation in general.

Frontmatter
1. Introduction
Abstract
What exactly is “co-creation”? What lies behind it? Is it just a trend? Is it just an old idea in a new package? How can we use it in our organizations?
Georg Michalik
2. Co-creation
Abstract
The co-creation mindset is explained coming from change management theory. It is made clear that there are very different views in change management: In one world people are involved in the change, in the other world they are changed from the outside. Co-creation seeks the involvement of those involved. When the participants enter the co-creation space for the first time and are confronted with the layout of the space, their attention is absorbed by the various stimuli, and they need some time to get used to the setting. Co-creation aims to let the shaping of the future happen through the people involved, to give them the confidence, the resources and the know-how to engage in co-creation. The more heterogeneous the group is and the more pronounced the individual aspects are, the greater the potential of the whole.
Georg Michalik
3. The Basic Assumptions of Co-creation
Abstract
The basic assumptions underlying co-creation are its mindset, the values of co-creation and its principles. Mindset, values and principles create the common denominator of how co-creation should be lived. They can be referred to and thus create clarity as to what belongs to co-creation and what does not. They also create an understanding of the spirit of co-creation. It can be the north star to question repeatedly whether one is on the right path.
Georg Michalik
4. The Potentialum Organizational Model
Abstract
Co-creation takes place in organizations and companies. What moves organizations today? What are the factors that determine success and failure? The picture that participants have of their company determines what conclusions they draw and which measures they arrive at in workshops. Co-creation without such a common picture would be random and arbitrary. In order to successfully develop forward-looking results, a common understanding of what the organization stands for, what is important to it and where it is on the path to the goal is needed.
Georg Michalik
5. Structure of the Potentialum Model
Abstract
The Potentialum model and the Potentialum analysis are intended as a tool enabling companies to better understand their organization. The model provides an easily understandable mental framework so that everyone involved can talk about the same thing. The analysis gives an up-to-date picture of the company. At a glance, everyone can see where its strengths and weaknesses are.
Potentialum is an organizational model that provides a shared perspective on the company. In using it, actors quickly come to speak a common language about their company. As an analytical tool, it can help an organization to hold up a mirror to itself. The results can be used to reach an agreement on the way forward. In the process of co-creation, the map is an important orientation tool for choosing and implementing fields of action.
Georg Michalik
6. The Co-creation Process
Abstract
The aim of co-creation is to connect people to a shared consciousness so that they can let the future emerge. Mindset, values and principles are the basic attitudes and assumptions upon which co-creation is based. By means of the co-creation process, co-creation should be able to be employed as a method.
The co-creation process has four phases with all in all eight steps. Each phase and all steps are listed and described to give you an idea of what exactly happens at each phase in the process. If you run co-creation workshops yourself, it can also help you to prepare for the individual phases. An interview with Anke Bridge and their experiences at bank Credit-Suisse gives an example of applying co-creation.
Georg Michalik
7. The Eight Steps of the Co-creation Process
Abstract
The aim of co-creation is to connect people to a shared consciousness so that they can let the future emerge. Mindset, values and principles are the basic attitudes and assumptions upon which co-creation is based. By means of the co-creation process, co-creation should be able to be employed as a method.
The co-creation process is the description of a structured procedure for how co-creation workshops can be carried out successfully. The sequence of and the specifics of the eight process steps are explained in detail.
Georg Michalik
8. Transformation of the Organization
Abstract
When people connect with each other in relation to a goal, with the determination to do things differently, they have the power to transform organizations. Co-creation builds on the connection between people and their aspirations, in order to make their intentions a reality. Co-creation can also help people to transform organizations. In order to do so, they must have the will to bring about transformation, to implement it and to sustain the new culture. The formats of transformation refer to the application-oriented aspects of co-creation, which mainly revolve around the space, the time available and the possible forms of co-creation. Important aspects are employees and the corporate culture, the role of leadership in changing the corporate culture and how HR can support this.
Georg Michalik
9. Co-creation: The Role of Leadership and HR
Abstract
The aim of co-creation is to connect people to a shared consciousness so that they can let the future emerge. Mindset, values and principles are the basic attitudes and assumptions upon which co-creation is based. Leaders need to create acceptance for co-creation. They are responsible for introducing the process of co-creation in the company and ensuring its sustainable application. Since in hierarchical organizations decisions are made from the top down, there is some evidence that it is primarily the role of leadership to initiate the change towards more co-creation. In the implementation, the leadership is supported by the HR department and its leadership development offers.
Georg Michalik
10. Co-creation and Organizational Development
Abstract
Hierarchically structured companies and organizations on their way towards flat hierarchies, agile working methods and dynamic interfaces mostly make use of Co-creation and Potentialum. They are in the process of transforming into less hierarchical structures and processes. This transformation is emerging from existing structures. It must therefore be the people in charge of the company who initiate this transformation.
The question is raised: Where do most of our organizations stand today and what impact has it on the way how we do organizational development? Kotter’s Leading Change model is taken and transferred into the world of co-creation to lead change by using co-creation and following Kotter’s eight steps at the same time.
Georg Michalik
11. The Co-creation Coach and Process Facilitator
Abstract
The aim of co-creation is to connect people to a shared consciousness so that they can let the future emerge. Mindset, values and principles are the basic attitudes and assumptions upon which co-creation is based. A co-creation coach is a professional who helps guide the co-creation process. Co-creation coaches can be independent consultants or, if the requisite knowledge has already been brought into the company, an employee of the organization. Whether in collectively solving concrete problems or in corporate transformation, co-creation requires support. The typical stumbling blocks are listed and some ideas are given of how to overcome them.
