Abstract

The automotive industry is heavily dependent on customer satisfaction as a measure of quality. This article highlights the advantages of using statistical process control (SPC) instruments to achieve continuous quality improvement in manufacturing automotive companies. The study collected data from an automotive company to analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) in the quality area. The objective is to identify the most effective tests that can detect defects in the quality laboratories before the products reach the customers. Statistical data comparison was conducted to identify who is responsible for the defects - the manufacturer or the customer. The data were analyzed using the SPSS software for easy interpretation of the KPIs. The results of the study showed that the Pressure Sensor was the most defective component. The most claimed component by customers was also the Pressure Sensor. The functional test performed in the reliability laboratories was found to be the most effective in identifying defects. The responsibility for the defects was also analyzed statistically. In conclusion, the efficient application of SPC in quality assurance of the manufacturing processess in the automotive industry can yield effective results in terms of statistical data and corrective action. The study demonstrated the achievement of a high quality quality and the “zero defects” principle by using SPC. By identifying the most effective tests and defect areas, automotive companies can improve their products and services, leading to greater customer satisfaction and a more successful business overall.
