Abstract

A deep understanding of entrepreneurship and hybrid entrepreneurship presumes a good understanding of basic elements of how individuals make the decision to become hybrid entrepreneurs, in what context, and under what pressures. Understanding the essential elements and all their subtleties can only come from a careful look at the real experiences of entrepreneurs and at their understanding of concepts. The present article is a qualitative study that attempts a deep understanding of hybrid entrepreneurs’ motivations to transition from employment to hybrid entrepreneurship and furthermore to full time entrepreneurship by employing a phenomenology technique. The goal was to obtain a better knowledge of hybrid entrepreneurship in Romania by evaluating the journeys of several entrepreneurs with experience in transitioning from employment to full-time entrepreneurship via hybrid entrepreneurship. The goal of the research was to characterize, decode, translate, and otherwise elucidate the meaning and reasoning behind the transitions from employment to hybrid entrepreneurship in Romania. An extensive number of findings regarding hybrid entrepreneurs’ characteristics and motivations are discussed, together with a comparison between hybrid entrepreneurs, full time entrepreneurs and employees.
