Hybrid drives seem likely to play an important role for the foreseeable future in both cars and commercial vehicles, whether they come with a fuel cell or a combustion engine as an energy converter. Because of the fundamental concept behind them, they are rarely the ideal solution in terms of efficiency or cost, but they do often represent a good compromise. They are much more flexible than pure battery electric vehicles and more efficient than conventional cars with a non-electrified combustion engine. This means that hybrids can be used as a complement to BEVs wherever the BEVs are not practical for professional users or not convenient for private users. Depending on the application, in this case they allow for the maximum viable level of electrification. …
