Airbus has unveiled the prototype of its battery-electric CityAirbus NextGen announced for 2021. The prototype is set to take off on its maiden flight this year.

Airbus also presented the electric CityAirbus NextGen at the opening of the new CityAirbus test center in Donauwörth. The CityAirbus in the two-ton class has a wingspan of around 12 meters. Designed for use in large cities, the EVTOL is expected to offer a cruising speed of 120 km/h and a range of 80 km.

Systems for electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles are to be tested in Donauwörth. The center is part of Airbus' Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) planning and has been in operation since December 2023. The CityAirbus NextGen will continue to be tested there. These tests include the electric motors with their eight rotors as well as the aircraft's other systems such as flight control and avionics. The prototype is due to make its maiden flight this year.
