Abstract

The detrimental effects of corrosion on mild steel in marine environments have posed significant challenges for industries and infrastructures. To address this issue, this research explores the potential of utilizing Cocos nucifera leaf waste as a sustainable corrosion protection method for mild steel in marine environments. Two complementary electrochemical techniques, Fourier Transform Impedance Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), were employed to investigate the corrosion inhibition efficiency and adsorption isotherm of Cocos nucifera leaf waste extracts on mild steel. The results demonstrate that the Cocos nucifera leaf waste extracts exhibit significant corrosion inhibition efficiency for mild steel in marine environments. The impedance data further reveals valuable insights into the adsorption behavior of the leaf waste on the metal surface. Implementing Cocos nucifera leaf waste as a corrosion inhibitor can contribute to reducing environmental pollution, conserving natural resources, and promoting sustainable practices in marine industries. Moreover, the study encourages further research and development in the field of utilizing agricultural and waste materials for corrosion protection, thereby fostering a greener and more resilient future for marine infrastructure and ecosystems.
