Microgrids are tightly controlled electrical networks, that are commonly installed to enhance power quality, reliability, economic benefits, and environmental impacts [1]. One of the most salient features is their capability to operate both in grid-connected and islanded mode [2] and therefore to circumvent upstream grid disturbances. However, also the large-scale integration of volatile renewables that can be supported by the enhanced control capabilities of microgrids gains momentum [3]. To enable synergetic effects among separate microgrids, the concept of multi-microgrids was developed that enables a joint operation of individual microgrids in a power distribution system [4]. Such effects include a cost reduction by sharing generation reserves and leveraging local imbalances. Due to the increased extent of multi-microgrids, additional fault mitigation techniques that are hardly feasible in single microgrid setups including splitting the grid into islanded subsections come into play. However, the increased complexity calls for new testing and validation methods along the entire development process. …
