Abstract

This article highlights the lack of environmental analysis in business models of blockchain-based P2P energy trading. Identifying crucial environmental factors in a business model is pivotal to the successful implementation of the underlying technical frameworks and architectures. Thus, this article provides a viewpoint that business models of blockchain-based P2P energy trading platforms should be extended to address environmental factors to better evaluate the feasibility of implementation. Moreover, the authors propose an analytical framework for addressing environmental factors in the development of blockchain-based P2P energy trading platform business models building on the PESTLE framework. This analytical framework is then applied in a use case on a blockchain-based P2P energy trading business model based on the business model canvas proposed by Osterwalder and Pigneur (Business model generation. Wiley, Amsterdam, 2010) in combination with a PESTEL analysis.
