The value chain model has been used to analyse the internal environment of organisations for several years. Porter (1985) defined a value chain as ‘‘the flow of value adding activities from raw materials, suppliers to the final customer’’. Hence, the chain is a combination of nine value activities, divided into two categories of activities: primary and support (Camerinelli, 2009). Primary activities are involved in production and selling, while support activities have the ability to coordinate the function of the former (Porter, 1985). In this section, the internal environment of Amazon, as the selected case study, is analysed using the value chain model. …
