Does Materialism Affect Compulsive Buying Behavior Among Multiple Credit Card Users in Jakarta?

Financial technology is no exception, with non-cash payment devices such as credit cards being one example. Credit cards, on the other hand, can serve as a driving factor in the formation of sensations of satisfaction, pleasure, or socioeconomic position in addition to their role as a means of payment. Credit cards, on the one hand, can operate effectively, but they can also be abused because their usage is uncontrollable. The goal of this research is to find and analyze whether materialism affects the mindset of many credit card owners toward using and buying compulsively. SmartPLS 4.0 was employed in this study's SEM-PLS modeling with 135 multiple credit card users in Jakarta. A Likert scale questionnaire ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree) was distributed at random. This investigation demonstrates that all hypotheses are correct. Materialism and materialism both have a direct and considerable influence on impulsive purchasing. Not only that but using a credit card mindset demonstrates a considerable link between consumerism and obsessive purchasing. Meanwhile, it is obvious that credit card attitudes have an influence on compulsive buying. Other characteristics, such as hedonism, luxury, or prestige, may be deemed beneficial for future research. The study's limitations stem from the characteristics of utilizing credit cards, notably materialism. Other traits, such as hedonism, extravagance, or status, might be considered complimentary for future research. In addition, the number of credit limits on credit cards possessed is entered for a more in-depth assessment. Similarly, the sample size can be increased to cover a larger and more diversified area.

Meaning-Making Through the Lens of Cognitive Semantics: A Case Study of John Donne’s ‘Holy Sonnets: Death, Be not Proud’

This paper aims at investigating semantic construal operations in John Donne’s ‘Holy Sonnets: Death, be not Proud’, through a cognitive semantic perspective. Langacker (Essentials of cognitive grammar. Oxford University Press, 2013) cognitive model views construal operations as cognitive processes that involve the interpretation of language in relation to a specific frame or mental model. The study will adopt Langacker’s cognitive model as a theoretical framework to explore the construal mechanisms involved in the interpretation of Donne’s poem. The data of the study consists of 25 post-graduate students’ responses majoring in English Language and literature to a questionnaire that involved questions related to the construal operations of specificity, focusing, prominence, and perspective. The study revealed how construal operations contribute to the creation of meaning in language through the parameters outlined in the framework. The participants’ apparent reflection and understanding of the text stems from the ‘focusing’ operation which comes as a result of their shared academic background knowledge during their post-graduate studies. The paper also has practical applications for language teaching and learning. It provides insights into how language can effectively be taught and learned by focusing on the cognitive operations involved in meaning-making in teaching literary texts at graduate and post-graduate levels.

Resistant to Change, Self-efficacy, Awareness, and Perceptions of Price on the Use of Digital Banks as Complementary Banks

The emergence of digital banks in Indonesia provides the public with an alternate option for accessing bank services that are conveniently available at any time and from any location. Because consumers already have accounts at the big banks, mainly traditional banks, digital banks are often seen as complementary institutions. Although many are utilized as auxiliary banks, there are many digital bank fans. However, the factors that influence people's decisions to use digital banks require additional research, particularly in distinct and specialized sectors and with unique characteristics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors of actual usage by considering the variables of resistance to change, self-efficacy, awareness, and price perception. This quantitative study included 263 people and employed SEM-PLS modeling using SmartPLS 4.0. This study uses a survey to identify the criteria for participants, which are adults in Jakarta aged 17 to 30 who have a digital bank as a complementary bank. According to the findings of this study, youthful consumers are substantially influenced by reluctance to change and pricing perceptions. Persuasive Strategies in English Political Discourse: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Biden’s Speech on the End of War in Afghanistan

The present study investigates persuasive strategies employed by President Joe Biden in his speech on the end of the war in Afghanistan. Fairclough’s (1995) three-dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is adopted to study the language in relation to the social context of Biden’s political discourse. Findings showed that Biden used a variety of discursive methods, such as reference to presupposed historical circumstances to attain a high level of persuasiveness. His word choice suggested that he and his government had already embraced an ideological shift and were trying to convince the rest of the country to follow. Ways in Which TQM, SCM Methods, and Operational Prowess Affect Company Performance

The research investigates the structural link between operational capabilities, Total quality management, supply chain practices, and operational performance. Depending on internal competencies, enterprises may function well. The outcome is essential because it helps managers utilize their internal talents by creating connections with supply chain partners and indicates the need to strengthen these capabilities for expertise. Key partners and internal talents may establish a unique resource base. Competitive advantage requires this resource base. This research shows that TQM mediates supply chain operations capacity and performance. The results support the competence-based, resource-based company and resource advantage hypothesis (related to manufacturing performance). SCM methods let firms use manufacturing capabilities by coordinating with key supply chain participants and using knowledge. The most robust structural equation modelling approach, SEM-PLS, is applied for analysis. The research achieved its goals using survey-based technique. The random sample response rate is 54%, which is greater than the minimum. Supply chain management can retain competitive advantage, the studies show. Proposing a Novel Performance Management Framework for Malaysian Non-profit Organisations: Towards Achieving Sustainability

While there is a clear importance for performance measurements in commercial entities or business firms, the relevance of performance measurement in non-commercial entities or non-profit organisations (NPOs), especially social institutions, still lacks research. Similar to commercial entities, NPOs need to show that they are efficiently managed and performing in a desired manner in order to fulfil their responsibility to diverse stakeholders. This study aims to develop a novel performance management framework (PMF) that would enable improved oversight and governance of NPOs in Malaysia, as well as other non-profit organisations, such as waqf institutions. This study used a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, and 20 peer-reviewed papers that were recently published in reputable journals were used. The results of this study confirm that the proposed PMF can efficiently manage and monitor the performance of NPOs, which can be crucial for ensuring the sustainability of the existing non-profit institutions in Malaysia. The findings of this study will provide important dimensions regarding the significance of an efficient performance management framework for NPOs generally, and particularly for Islamic social institutions like waqf/endowment institutions.

Investment Behaviour in Retail Green Sukuk: Case of Indonesia

This paper attempts to analyse the investment behaviour in the retail green sukuk (RGS) issued by the Indonesian government. The research framework is based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), while the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS) was employed as a research method. Online questionnaires were distributed to potential retail investors. A total of 113 respondents met the requirements and were used as the sample in this research. The findings show that decision to invest in RGS is influenced by intention and perceived behavioural control (PBC). Meanwhile, attitude and subjective norms have significant influence on the intention to invest in the RGS. Attitude is found as the strongest predictor of intention and is influenced by knowledge about RGS, environmental awareness and religiosity. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the government should intensify campaigns about sukuk and green issues. The promotion of RGS should be targeted to the religious individual/community with sufficient literacy of sukuk and awareness of the green issues.

Theorizing the Connection Between Economic Downturns and Employee Morale

This article serves as an introduction to a special issue on theorizing macro-level instability and the experience of workers. Job stability is threatened by turbulence, which includes factors such as the economy, politics, society, technology, and the environment. Human resource management, in our opinion, aids businesses and their staffs in weathering economic and political storms. We suggest a new role, the Proactive Career, to situate and expand the HR function in contemporary businesses based on the contributions to this Special Issue. The debates around human resources (HR) and HR professionals have been too narrow and focused on the domestic scene. It's time to make this role more outside focused, with responsibilities including keeping an eye on the big picture for key events, forecasting staffing changes, and coming up with solutions to blunt their impact. We conclude with several suggestions for further study.

Literary Muses on the Path to Conscious Self-sacrifice: A Jungian Archetypal Approach

This research examines how the Jungian concept of the return of the ego to the unconscious in the form of selfless devotion to the beloved “anima” and “animus”, reflects itself in the life of two literary muses of the twentieth century modern literature; namely, Olga Ivinskaya, the poet, translator and beloved who inspired the character Lara in Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago (1957), and Milena Jesenská, a journalist, writer, translator and Franz Kafka’s confidante in his Letters to Milena (1952). This paper reads these two literary muses through the lens of Archetypal Psychological Criticism, and argues that the path of the divine feminine archetype, the two muses chose to embark on, necessitated a form of self-sacrifice that would bring about the sacred marriage of the “anima” and “animus” on a soul level.

Selection of Logistics Center Location DEMATAL Method

The placement of a logistics center is an important consideration for companies that conduct supply chain and shipment operations. It entails determining the best geographical location that will efficiently service the organization's transportation and storage needs. The site of a logistics center is chosen after a thorough examination of many examinations of market reach of transportation networks, labour availability, infrastructure, cost variables, and risk evaluation. Making a sound choice about the location of the logistics center can lead to increased supply chain efficiency, lower costs, and better customer service. Site selection entails weighing the benefits of various locations against the requirements of a new project. The site selection procedure involves a thorough assessment of the project's requirements, which are then compared to the advantages of alternative locations. The procedure normally entails choosing and assessing communities, analysing and buying real estate sites, and maybe negotiating tax benefits. Site selection consultants will consider the number and movement patterns of cars and pedestrians when deciding on new locations for retail stores, chain restaurants, and fast-food franchises. The greatest employees are hard to find and keep, and many are quite particular about where they work to achieve the ideal work-life balance. A company's performance over the long run can be considerably improved by wise location choices. Poor ones can cost millions in lost capital, talent, and production. The DEMATEL methodology is often used to identify the selection of logistics center locations. Evaluation parameters used are weather condition, Landform condition, Water supply, Power supply, Solid castoff disposal.

Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises: A Critical Approach Based on E. D. Hirsch’s Hermeneutic Theory

The main aim of the present paper is to shed light on E. D. Hirsch’s hermeneutic theory and apply it on Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises (1926). According to Hirsch, the meaning of a literary work is absolute; it is not changeable. It is identical with whatever the author has in mind during the time of writing. He doesn’t deny, however, that the readers cannot always have access to the author’s intended meaning, but they can at least try to do so. Hirsch differentiates between meaning and consciousness of meaning; it is not possible to mean what one does not mean, but it is very possible to mean what one is not conscious of meaning. Hirsch does not deny that the meaning may change, but this is a matter of the work’s significance, rather than its meaning. The researcher argues that Hemingway’s novel can illustrate all Hirsch’s critical views about the meaning of the literary work and attempts, accordingly, to provide a textual analysis that supports the validity of such views. By the end, neither the reader, nor the critic, can usurp the author’s position because doing such a thing may eliminate the only compelling principle to achieve validity of interpretation.

Study on Delinquency Levels and Portfolio Quality of the Microenterprise Bank—Peru

Credit risk is a challenge facing the banking sector. The problem of asymmetric information causes credit markets to function inefficiently. In the short term, delinquency problems cause liquidity problems, and in the long term, in the absence of contingent credit lines, this problem can become a solvency problem, which can ultimately lead to the liquidation of the institution. The research team in Huaraz, Peru, set out to determine the impact of delinquency on the quality of the microenterprise bank’s portfolio. S/. 4,024,000,000,000 in outstanding loans (including contingent loans) of the microenterprise bank represent 3.32% of all bank loans and 27.8% of all bank loans to small and microenterprises. The performing portfolio of the Huaraz branch went from S/39 176 573 in 2020 to S/44 708 395 in 2022, an increase of 14.1 percent, while the portfolio at risk went from S/3 472 347 in 2021 to S/4 588 202 in 2022, an increase of 43.55. What is the correlation between delinquency and portfolio quality in Mibanco Peru? Is the general question that motivates this study. The study was explanatory in nature; data were collected from BANTOTAL reports (Mibanco’s nationwide reporting system) and analyzed in SPSS and Excel to reveal trends in delinquency and portfolio quality over a 24-month period. The study revealed that delinquency in the Mibanco—Huaraz Agency actually improves portfolio quality.
