Über dieses Buch

This book describes the progress and prominent theories of regional development research in the past decades, especially in the past decade, discusses the industrial structure, spatial structure, resources, and environment, as well as a series of practical issues, and reveals the general characteristics of spatial structure evolution in the process of regional development. The research on the issues of regional development has become the frontier of relevant disciplines since the 1950s, and much progress has been made in the process of solving practical problems in social and economic development. This book provides an in-depth and systematic demonstration of the "point-axis system" theory of regional exploitation and development as well as the T-shaped structure of China's regional economic action in theory and practice and discusses the impact of location differential rent, restricted accessibility, technological innovation, etc., on regional development theoretically. This book is used as a reference for planning, scientific research, and teaching personnel in territorial expansion, regional economy, human geography, etc.

Chapter 1. Regional Development Is a Major Socio-economic Issue in the Contemporary World
Abstract
Regional development is a significant socio-economic issue in the contemporary world. After the end of World War II, most countries and regions experienced significant socio-economic development. However, they also faced common challenges related to population, resources, and the environment. Regional development issues reflect these three challenges in specific countries and regions, and they are universal, urgent, and important. The spatial structure of socio-economic activities has evolved from one-dimensional to three-dimensional, and it is influenced by three factors: economic, social, and environmental.

Chapter 2. Progress of Foreign Research on Regional Development
Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the progress in regional development research both domestically and internationally. Regional development issues are broad and profound socio-economic problems, and they are important subjects of study in economics, regional science, and geography. Research on regional development has a long history, and international progress in this field includes topics such as international trade and interregional division of labor, location theory, regional policies, industrial structure, spatial structure, macro-regional development and economic growth mechanisms, new theories on national competitive advantage research, and two methodological approaches to regional development research.

Chapter 3. Progress of Research on Regional Exploitation and Regional Development in China
Abstract
This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the progress in China's regional development and regional development research. It is divided into two stages: from the establishment of New China in 1949 to before the reform and opening-up in 1978, and from the reform and opening-up in 1978 to the present. The research mainly focuses on the evaluation and comprehensive development of regional resource conditions, the layout of productivity and integrated production areas, the strategic shift from balanced productivity layout to land development, regional policies, regional planning, land use planning, and regional economic development strategies. Looking ahead in the future, it is necessary to establish a theoretical system for regional development research based on China's national conditions and distinctive characteristics.

Chapter 4. Industrial Structure and Regional Development
Abstract
This chapter explores the relationship between industrial structure and regional development. There is a lack of research on the mechanism of the interaction between China's industrial structure and regional development. The chapter first clarifies the basic connotation of industrial structure and analyzes it from different perspectives to understand various structural relationships. It then reveals the relationship between basic industries, leading industries, and regional development. The chapter also examines the evolution of industrial structure in regional development, emphasizing the importance of economic growth and upgrading of industrial structure. Finally, it discusses the relationship between resource structure and industrial structure, highlighting the influence of resources on national and regional development and industrial structure.

Chapter 5. Resources, Environment and Regional Development
Abstract
This chapter examines the relationship between resource and environment and regional development. Environmental degradation poses serious challenges to regional development, and there is a dual pressure to promote development and protect the environment. It is crucial to study the “human-nature” regional system and its sustainable development in the face of future environmental crises. Strategic guidelines for ecological and environmental remediation should be implemented, and a resource-saving socio-economic system should be established as one of the fundamental national policies to promote coordinated development between economic growth and ecological environment.

Chapter 6. Spatial Structure and Regional Development
Abstract
This chapter explores the relationship between spatial structure and regional development. Under the influence of new socio-economic development trends, location theory has continued to evolve from a single socio-economic object to a comprehensive entity of regional development. The forms and results of interactions between factors are more complex, and they play a significant role in practical regional development planning and research. The development of location theory has mainly focused on regional analysis and spatial structure. This chapter specifically discusses three aspects: the stages and regulation of the evolution of socio-economic spatial structure, the imbalance of regional development, and accessibility and regional development.

Chapter 7. Location Differential Rent and Spatial Structure of Urban Land Utilization
Abstract
This chapter analyzes the relationship between location rent and the spatial structure of urban land use. The rapid expansion of urbanization has led to significant changes in urban land use. The utilization of urban land in the city region needs to follow scientific principles. By exploring the laws of urban land use, such as the formation of location rent and the scientific methods of urban land use, it is possible to scientifically arrange urban land use based on the laws and the specific socio-economic development needs of the city region.

Chapter 8. Point-Axis Progressive Diffusion and Point-Axis Spatial Structure System
Abstract
This chapter introduces the innovative concept of progressive diffusion of point-axis and the point-axis spatial structure system. It analyzes the fundamental types and the morphological characteristics of spatial structure of socio-economic regional organization. The chapter presents theoretical models that can be practically applied in national land planning and regional development. It discusses how to achieve optimal spatial organization and how to effectively manage the relationship between economic growth and balanced development in practice. The chapter emphasizes the significant importance of the point-axis system model in regional development and highlights the characteristics of coastal development axes and riverbank development axes, revealing the progressive diffusion of socio-economic entities in space.

Chapter 9. Technological Innovation and Spatial Structure
Abstract
This chapter examines the relationship between technological innovation and spatial structure. Technological innovation is considered the fundamental driving force behind the evolution of socio-economic spatial structure. It promotes changes in spatial structure through changes in industrial structure, the coupling relationship between industries and location factors, balanced regional development, and advancements in transportation technology. Among them, information has become a new production factor and location factor, and the development of information technology has more and more influence on the spatial structure of social economy. The development of high-tech industry also causes the change of social and economic spatial structure through location trend and location choice.
